VTQuickSearch - EN

It's been a long time since I took some time to write in this blog, but I think the occasion deserves it.

In this blog entry I come to present you a little idea I had when the year started, to make a small browser extension.

It all started the day I was reading this article from Crowdstrike's blog.

I was reading this report when I started to look up some of the data in the report on VirusTotal. Suddenly laziness took over my body as I wanted to quickly look up information about IPs and domains, but the whole process of copying, pasting and searching was getting tedious. That's why I searched for a VirusTotal browser extension. Indeed there is an official extension that you can find here

The problem is that when I tried it, it brings many options but some of them did not work for me and some of them did not work as I want. I invite you to try it is very good extension, but what I was looking for was something simple with which to go directly and quickly to VirusTotal information.

That is why I decided to create my own extension. It's called VTQuickSearch and you can find it at this Google Chrome Store link to install it.

It is simple in operation, we only have one button to activate and deactivate the extension. While the extension is activated, if we select a domain, IP, MD5, SHA1 or SHA256, the extension will open a new tab with the search already done in VirusTotal. The extension also accepts domains with the format domain[.]es and IPs with the format 192.168.0[.]1 and 192[.]168.0.1. That is, the extension detects the format and performs the corresponding search in another browser tab.

Here is a short  demo video of how the extension works:

And that's it, as you can see it's a simple extension but I think it's very practical and useful, and I hope you find it useful too :)

In this case I have started by uploading it to the Google Chrome Store so that it is available in all Chromium-based browsers, but I plan to also upload it throughout this week and next, to the Firefox extensions website.

I hope this extension helps you even just a little :)
